The Right Fit
Brauning aims to work with emerging software and software-centric companies. We have specific expertise in software that:
- Gets delivered through or manages mobile platforms, or/and
- Provides functionality through web services architecture, or/and
- Gets delivered through traditional licensing, ASP model or as a turnkey appliance.
We have a keen interest in companies that utilize, integrate with, or manage open source or other very low-cost IP components to build high value, price competitive solutions.
More specifically, we tend to work with clients that fall into two distinct financial categories:
- Bootstrapped development-stage businesses who:
- Have $100k-$2MM yearly revenue (presumes working product/service)
- Are in one of the software categories above (with distinct Intellectual Property) or for whom technology could be a key differentiator but currently isn’t
- Tend not to have experience w/ institutional investors or who have currently inactive investors
- Have other gaps aligned with our areas of expertise in Marketing, Sales, and Operations.
- VC Middle 6:
- Portfolio companies that are neither the perceived highly-likely-to-win-big (top 20%) nor the destined-for-the-salvage-pile (bottom 20%). We think that many of these have similar characteristics to the bootstrap group in terms of hungry and aggressive entrepreneurism.
- Companies that have gaps aligned with Brauning expertise in Marketing, Sales, and Operations.
